Folk Musician Mike Seeger passed away at his home at the age 75 of cancer.

Seeger was a self-taught musician who began playing stringed instruments at the age of 18. At about the age of 20, he began collecting songs by traditional musicians on a tape recorder. He was exposed to traditional “old-time music” through his mother Ruth Crawford-Seeger and father Charles Seeger, who worked with musicologists John and Alan Lomax. Folk musicians such as Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, John Jacob Niles, and others were frequent guests in their home . His famous musical family included half-brother Pete Seeger and sisters Peggy Seeger and Penny Seeger.

He was an accomplished musician; a distinctive singer who played autoharp, banjo, fiddle, dulcimer, guitar, mouth harp, mandolin, and dobro. At 25, along with John Cohen and Tom Paley, he became a founding member of the New Lost City Ramblers. He received six Grammy nominations and was the recipient of four grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The good news is that Heidi Montag did indeed do a playboy shoot, the bad news however is that she doesn’t appear nude.

The cover shoot is a tasteful one and not quite what people expected.

The Hills star had previously said that she was a devout Christian and doing a full spread would be against her religion.

Mel Martinez , Republican of Florida, will resign from his office by the end of August for personal reasons, aides say. Martinez had already decided not to run for re-election in 2010, but had previously insisted that he would not resign.

Senator Martinez has told supporters in a statement that he will resign his Senate seat as soon as a replacement can be found.

Senator Martinez was quoted as saying:

“My priorities have always been my faith, my family and my country and at this stage in my life, and after nearly twelve years of public service in Florida and Washington, it’s time I return to Florida and my family.

So today I am announcing my decision to step down from public office, effective on a successor taking office to fill out the remainder of my term.”

Jasmin Ouschan Wins Great Lakes Classic.

Ouscham was in the final up against 6-times Snooker World Champion Kelly Fisher from Great Britain.

She took a rapid lead and showed a good performance. Even though there were a few mistakes at the beginning, it seemed that the match got better and better the longer it took. With a solid performance Ouschan managed to win the final with a clear 7:2 score and her first WPBA event of the season.

Authorities investigating the death of Arturo Gatti have revealed Arturo Gatti’s wife Amanda is one of their main suspects.

According the statement from the Pernambuco state civil police spokeswoman, Arturo Gatti seemed to have been strangled with a purse while Amanda Rodrigues Gatti said her husband had suffered head injuries.

Inconsistent statements, changing stories, blood on her purse strap and a head injury have police pointing the suspect finger at Arturo Gatti’s wife, Amanda Rodrigues.

Police arrested 23-year-old Amanda Rodrigues because of contradictions in her story when she was interrogated, police said, explaining that she was “inconsistent and incoherent.”

Rodrigues, a Brazilian, could not explain how she spent nearly 10 hours in the room without noticing that Gatti was already dead, authorities said.

She has been detained.

J . Crew Group Inc. opened a few clothing stores under the brand name of Madewell . In May 2006 Drexler announced plans to launch a chain of casual stores in August under the name Madewell . In 2008 Madwell has 10 locations.

However things are not looking so good for the chain, despite a loyal following, J . Crew’s Madewell may also be on the rocks. The chain lost $11 million last year, and J . Crew’s chief executive has admitted Madewell’s merchandise was too basic and expensive.

Good news though for fans, for the 4th of July, Madewell 1937 is offering 25% off all their sale items.

Montgomery County politician Ruthann Aron was ordered yesterday to serve three years in the county jail for trying to hire a hit man to kill her husband and a lawyer under a sentence that a judge said will punish her but also allow her to get psychiatric help.

The sentence was substantially more than the one year in a private New York psychiatric hospital at her own expense that Aron’s attorneys had sought. But it also was a marked departure from the eight to 18 years in a state prison that sentencing guidelines recommend. With standard good behavior credit, she could be released after serving about two years.

Jonathan Sanchez was nearly perfect on one night, his father chose the perfect time to show up in San Francisco and cheer him.

Jonathan Sanchez, the Giants’ left-hander threw the majors’ first no-hitter of the season Friday night and came within a whisper of a perfect game. The only runner to reach against him in an 8-0 victory over the San Diego Padres came on an error by third baseman Juan Uribe with one out in the eighth.

Jonathan Sanchez’s dad, Sirgfredo, watched nervously from the stands, bouncing and biting his nails, then scurried down to the dugout to be among the first to congratulate the pitcher.

“Right now I’m just going to go home and hang out with my dad,” Jonathan Sanchez said. “I was pumped that he was here watching the game.”

Jonathan Sanchez almost lost his no-hit bid in the ninth, but Gold Glove center fielder Aaron Rowand saved the gem with a leaping grab at the center-field fence to rob pinch-hitter Edgar Gonzalez for the second out.

“I was going to go up and over and land on the other side of the fence if I had to, to try to make the catch,” Rowand said.

The 26-year-old Jonathan Sanchez (3-8) returned to the rotation after a nearly three-week demotion to the bullpen — and only got the call because 303-game winner Randy Johnson went on the disabled list this week with a shoulder injury.

With his father and a friend cheering from the stands, Jonathan Sanchez threw a called third strike past Everth Cabrera to finish his first career complete game. Jonathan Sanchez walked toward the plate and thrust his arms in the air as catcher Eli Whiteside rushed in for a big hug and the Giants poured out of their dugout.
